During these periods, people are considering how to save money which is especially true for households that support one, two or more kids. Between feeding them and getting them all to schools, these households will sure enough have to cut back in some areas in order to survive.
However, being careful with expenditure for example isn’t just something parents need to do because saving money in a recession, kids can also play an essential part. In fact, they can employ these tight times to instruct their children about saving for the future. This will serve them well in tougher times in the future should they go through this again when they have families of their own. Sometimes as an adult and a parent it is difficult to comprehend but kids can be understanding and provided you explain the situation to them, with something they can fully grasp, they can see how important it all is. Many will even help you of their own volition without you telling them what they need to do, because instructing them as to why they should do something is more effective than instructing them straight-out. The latter will normally antagonize them or will cause them to rebel as they feel you are give them orders without any grounds. Having money boxes may seem outdated in this digital age but it is however still effective in instructing kids how to lay money aside. Tell them that saving up will permit them to have some funds should they have to purchase something that they want. A percentage of their lunch money – for example a quarter or two, is an excellent place to start. Naturally, do not discourage them from buying food when they need to eat but inform them that if they are not in need of food, they can lay aside the money so that they can use more for the next day.
Maintain healthy eating habits and this will help keep control of their urge to get more than they can use. Always ask them to clean their plates each time – that way they will only get the food that they are able to eat. This will once again instruct them about laying aside and purchasing only the items that they need. This is a great training for the future so that they will not grow up with ‘maxed out’ credit cards, buying items that they do not really need in the first place. Let’s be honest ,whatever your kid does is only a mirror of what you yourself are doing at home, so if you want the children to begin saving up, make certain that you are also doing your part in saving in these periods of economic slowdown.
