Repairing Flooded Carpet: A cheap job is a good job right? Wrong….
Posted on September 10th, 2010 No commentsDon’t allow an inexperienced 24 hour carpet cleaner come to repair your carpets damaged by water. These are the things you should be wary of:
Overcharging. An amateur water restoration cleaner may fill the job up with superfluous extras. E.g. using dehumidification on the water damaged carpets unnecessarily.
Not using the correct equipment. They may hire equipment from hire businesses to dry the carpet. This is permissible, but an established water damage professional will own all their equipment to provide a faster response and hopefully a better value job.
The right moisture metre. If they don’t have the right moisture meter, they cannot tell if the carpet is repaired. This enhances the danger of future mould growth. Mould removal would then be required.
Specialisation. There are many “Carpet Cleaners” in this industry who do water damage work on the “side.” i.e. they do not complete this kind of job everyday. Be wary of this. Drying a carpet is an art. Taking carpet off the gripper strips then reinstalling them should be done by a professional, otherwise carpets can be damaged irrepairably.
You may be asking, how do I locate a proper Flood Restoration Business? Below I have selected some things to look for when you hunt around for a carpet flood damage business:
How large is their Yellow Pages ad slot: This can be a sign of how much work they get already. A full-size Yellow Pages advertisement can cost upwards of $50 000. If they have paid for a bigger ad, you have some promise that they are established.
Where do they rank in Google? The higher the rate in Google, the more webpage views there has been for the business.
What Qualifications do they have? The fundamental qualification required is a IICRC qualification in Applied Structural Drying and Water Damage Restoration.
Do Insurance companies use them for water damage jobs? This is a great indicator. If insurance companies use them, the business is very likely to be excellent at their job. Insurance companies will use the businesses that give them the best value for the fee.
What Equipment do they have? They should own at least 100 Air movers. If they own this many, this is a good indicator that they have been in the game for a good time. It took our business 8 years to acquire that many wet carpet drying air movers.
What kind of commitment can you get with them by calling on the phone? See if you can pin them down to a set fee for water extraction, water removal and initial inspection. If they can’t give you a package for this only, you know they are not going to serve you, so look elsewhere.
Response TimeOur Water Damage Brisbane business is premised to a 59 minute response time to a water damage emergency. The restoration needs to be completed ASAP. Mould can appear in a 24 hour period.
If you stick to these tips you are sure to get a Flood Damage Restoration technician who knows how to do the job right.
