Not all adware is malicious- But Do Not Let Your Guard Down

Not all adware is malicious. Some of it is delivered in a completely open and honest way and actually serves to make the computerized age a lot more affordable for many people. Still, a large number of people loudly voice their distaste for adware, even the type that doesn’t really do any harm. The fact of the matter is though, the non malicious forms of advertising software benefit people in great ways and should be welcomed or simply avoided, but not protested.

What is adware:

Adware is software that gets installed on a computer and delivers advertisements that the computer users will see, and are generally encouraged to click on. For the most part ads are paid for by advertisers on a per click basis, or through a commission system in which they pay when clicking the ad results in a transaction.

What is the difference between malicious and non malicious adware:

The difference is pretty clear, really. Malicious adware makes its way onto a computer through what are generally deceptive means. Often these means involve viruses but sometimes it’s simply through misrepresenting a download offering. They are usually hard to get rid of and pop up on the screen at any given time. Malicious adware may also have built in spyware. As for the non malicious kind, well, it’s simply the kind of ad software that doesn’t do any of those things.

Where do you find non malicious adware:

This type of advertising software is usually delivered as part of otherwise free software applications. The ads will appear whenever the software is used and they generally appear as part of the software’s main interface, and no necessarily as popups that shoot up outside of the application. Users are most always notified that they will be using ad supported software before they install it, and when the software is uninstalled the ad software will go with it.

Why do programmers use adware:

Software designers and developers turn to adware because they need to make money and pay for development costs. The fact of the matter is that people don’t like paying for software, and that’s especially true of newer applications that they aren’t familiar with and minor applications that aren’t large or overly important. By placing ads within their programs developers have a chance to actually make money even though the user pays nothing.

What are the benefits to ad supported software;

The benefits for the user are pretty much the same as the benefits to the developer. The software can be gained at no cost. Because the developer still makes money though, the software will have a better chance at gaining long term support in terms of upgrades and later additions.

Why do some people hate adware:

Hating malicious adware is pretty much universal, but when it comes to hating all kinds there’s little legitimate reason for it. For the most part, many people are simply eager to get something for nothing and feel that being marketed to isn’t a fair trade off. Generally, they just don’t understand the true value of what they are using. That said, many fear even the safe forms of adware because they don’t understand the difference and associate it with viruses and spyware.
