Meat, Seafoods, and Alcohol: Foods to Avoid with Gout
Posted on September 26th, 2009 No commentsHaving a terrible experience with gout, you should ensure you do not have many foods in your diet that are high in protein. Therefore, your choices with your diet should be low in protein. This means that you have to get rid of red and dark meat or limit it as much as possible.
You will need to avoid seafood as well. We are sorry if seafood is a favorite of yours, but it is something you will need to avoid to control gout. Avoid seafood particularly sardines, herring, mussels, scallops, roe, trout, and haddock. You should avoid those foods since these are found to have high concentrations of purine as this can make your gout worse.
This high purine content in both meats and seafood can trigger gout attacks. Make sure you take note of the following purine-rich foods. Here is a list of food that is high in purine: Veal, Salmon, Turkey, Trout, Liver, Bacon, Goose, Pheasant and Yeast.
This next one we have for you is not exactly a food, but rather a beverage. You should avoid alcohol. If you are an avid drinker, this might cause you some panic, but you must discipline yourself or suffer the pains of gout. This is because alcoholism can cause many health troubles. Nevertheless, we will not delve on that deeper, as that can be another story. Anyhow, avoid the alcohol as much as you can to prevent your gout from worsening. You should especially avoid beer as it is higher in yeast content. Yeast, as mentioned, is one thing should avoid. All yeast fermented food should also be avoided.
This list of restricted foods might be long, but we have covered some of the basic everyday food that you must stay away from as it will only make your problems worse.
