Garden Cushions
Posted on February 19th, 2009 No commentsChair cushions add needed softness to hard wooden kitchen and dining room chairs, but choosing dining room chair cushions that don’t overpower the kitchen set isn’t easy. Although you can purchase a set of chair cushions for $5 at the local dollar store, they may not match your room’s decor or complement your style. Chair cushions that are cheaper have less durable fabric, thin padding and poor workmanship.
You will be rewarded with a set that lasts longer and is far more comfortable if you take the trouble to choose well-made, quality decorative chair cushions. You must take these things into account when choosing chair cushions for wooden chairs. Pick the right size for the seat – if the cushion is too small, it will be uncomfortable. It will look builky if it is too large. The wear on the fabric from the edges of the chair seat and will cut the life of your cushions.
Be certain that if there are ties or straps they are sewn into the cushion’s seam. Chair ties must be strong enough to withstand pulling and tugging when people sit and stand. Ties have a much better chance of staying attached if they are sewn into the seam.
To make it easy to keep them clean, buy seat cushions treated with stain guard. Investing in a can of stain resist or stain guard make it easier to keep them looking fresh and new should you find the perfect cushions aren’t stain resistant. Ultimately this kitchen belongs to you and it is the place where your children eat their meals, isn’t that so? Choose washable chair cushions – or one with removable, washable covers. Some spills are bound to soak in, even if you use stain guard. Your life will easier if you are able to put your chair cushions into the water. Pick cushions in a durable fabric that will stand up to the wear of lots of seats on the seat.
Good choices for fabric that wears like iron are corduroy, denim, chintz, canvas and duck. Embellishments like rolled edges, piping or ruffles need to be securely sewn into the seam between the cushion’s top and bottom. Check the seam closely for breaks or gaps, giving a tug on the ruffle or piping to be certain it won’t easily loosen. Tufted cushions are pretty – but they can be uncomfortable if you sit on them for long periods of time. If you choose a natural cushion to ensure that any button on all joints through a variety of levels of a chair cushion are sewn in order to avoid the loss of peristalsis button to bottom.
