Whether you have been experiencing dry skin, inflammation or rashes, you may have some form of eczema. This is a term that has been designated to many different types of skin inflammation known as dermatitis. While there are several different kinds to become familiar with, atopic dermatitis is by far the most common form.

What you need to understand is that you are not alone if you are suffering from eczema. It can affect people of all ages despite the fact that it is most commonly found in infants. The good news is in half of the infants who are affected, they will be completely healed by the age of three. The downside is the other half of those cases people have recurring conditions and symptoms throughout their life.

It is common for people who are affected by this skin condition to have some form of family history. Whether it is this in particular or some kind of allergic conditions like asthma or hay fever, many times it points back to your family. This is why it is imperative you know and understand your family history.

As previously mentioned you are most certainly not on your own if you are suffering from some degree of this skin condition. There are around 20% of all children as well as around 3% of adults that suffer from some degree of eczema. In fact it is quite likely that someone that you know has or is suffering from eczema.

Now where does this irritating skin condition begin? The unfortunate thing is that most all doctors are unsure as to what the origin of eczema happens to be. The one thing that they are sure of is that an abnormal immune system is very likely to play a part.

Now while there are all kinds of different types of eczema there are also many things that can trigger the condition. For instance substances that can cause an allergic reaction like detergents and different kinds of hand soap can cause outbreaks of eczema. Basically if it has the potential to cause an allergic reaction there is a chance that it can cause eczema. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity can also play a factor.

It cannot be stressed enough that you need to be able to understand all of the symptoms of an occurrence of eczema. This way you will be able to more effectively be able to treat the condition. While the appearance of this skin condition will differ from person to person if you are experiencing a breakout that really looks quite odd then by all means get it checked out. The faster you are able to correctly identify a breakout the faster you are going to be able to start treating your eczema.
