    One of the best places either to stay or just visit during a trip to Hawaii is Hawaii’s Big Island. The Big Island is most famous for being the home of the Kilauea volcano, an active volcano that continues to add to the size of the Big Island. In addition visitors to Hawaii’s Big Island can see a number of other fascinating anomalies.

    One of the most interesting things about the Big Island is that you can actually experience eleven different climate zones while on your Hawaii vacation. The Hawaii’s Big Island features lush rain forests and arid deserts, black sand beaches and snow-capped mountains. Truly, the Big Island is the most diversified of the entire Hawaiian Islands when it comes to climate.

    There are many different things you can do while you’re on the Big Island. For example, you can actually see molten lava flow during a visit to the Hawaii Volcanoes National park, and see the Kilauea volcano up close. You can have a snowball fight on the top of Mauna Kea, which is the tallest mountain in the world when measured from the ocean floor.

    There are also a variety of historical sights to see while you’re on the Big Island as well. There is the Waipio Valley, which is known as the “Valley of Kings.” Where you can actually walk through Puukohola Heiau. This is the largest restored Hawaiian ancient religious temple.

    Hilo, Hawaii

    It can be helpful for your Hawaiian Vacations if you understand a little about the different sections of the Big Island. You can start out with the Hilo side, which is the East side of the Big Island. This is home to Hilo, the capital city of the big island. It’s also a fairly wet side, so you’ll experience plenty lush and tropical flora on the Hilo side.

    The Hilo side houses the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It also features the Lyman Museum and House, where you can learn about the history of Hawaii. Downtown Hilo features charming, historic streets, the perfect place for a stroll.

    The Hamakua Cost is the next area of the Big Island to look at when you’re on your trip to Hawaii. This is the location of the Waipio Valley. You’ll find waterfalls and plenty of greenery on this part of the Big Island. You can view even more than 2,000 types of exotic plants, located at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden.

    The North Side of the Big Island features the birthplace of King Kamehameha I, the greatest king of Hawaii. It is home to many religious temples, including Puukohola Heiau National Historical Park and Mookini Heiau, one of the very first religious sites on the Big Island.

    The sunny Kona Side is home to big-game sport fishing off Kailua-Kona, multiple resorts, golf on the Kohala Coast, and Kona coffee from the inland slopes. Once home to Hawaiian royalty, this vibrant resort and shopping area still preserves the area’s historic significance. Here, you can travel back to the days of the Hawaiian Monarchy at Hulihee Palace.

    Make sure you make time for the Big Island when planning your Hawaii Vacations. You’ll be glad you did.
