Graces Simple Realities For Parents Who Home School Their Children
Posted on September 7th, 2009 No commentsIt’s usually been accepted that folks have an natural right to determine the easiest way to raise and educate their children. Nowadays, the latter choice is made more complex for the easier dichotomous call of personal versus public schooling is given a 3rd rival : homeschooling. Homeschooling holds a plain advantage over the other two, that of the undeniable fact that as a parent, you are given an opportunity to be totally hands-on with your kid’s education, from schedule, to curriculum, and to the type of development you would like imbibed in him or her thru that education. While these advantages may remain true under any circumstance, it is important for you as a parent to also understand the disadvantages in the system too. Only then can you be certain that you are indeed making the right and educated call in choosing homeschooling over the other two.
The first apparent disadvantage is the quantity of investment you’ve got to make as a parent. Why? Homeschooling leaves the accountability of teaching your kid completely on you. This means you are going to have to investigate and collect a curriculum for your kid, as well as determine on your own supplemental activities that may boost this learning experience. Moreover, this implies having to invest larger time in your child than an ordinary working parent would. Homeschooling may require either parent to stay home and be the teacher, or may put bigger stress on fogeys who both work for a job.
This also means doing away with the expertise of a licensed teacher. Qualified instructors are provided with the knowledge to educate a wide range of topics as well as strategies in order to stimulate greater learning and active collusion. As a parent without this training, you’ll find it critical to do much more research, especially as you establish what you want to coach your child.
The school room setting provides intrinsic advantages of socialization to your kid. Homeschooling manifestly takes away this opportunity for your youngster to interact with other children in the learning environment. Although your kid may have siblings to interact with, this can translate into your child as not being exposed to a wider gamut of ideas and points of view. A school room with children from different backgrounds and personal ideology provides your kid with ideas that may excite his mind to think and criticize.
Visit and talk to people who have undergone homeschooling. This could help you to get to understand more about these downsides, and perhaps, help you learn how to suitably reply to them to make homeschooling work for you. Learn more about elementary reading for home schoolers.

How Not to Learn Programming
Posted on September 7th, 2009 No commentsOne thing you want to strive for is to learn your programming language in as little time as possible. You don’t want to be sitting there after 6 months and not be able to finish a program. Here are a few suggestions to get there as quickly as possible.
Master Your Course Material
A great start to your programming career is by completing your course (I assume you will be going on some course) with flying colours. Having lectured programming I can suggest the following:
- no messing around in lectures, you need to focus and concentrate
– things that need explaining need to be written down, you won’t remember it
– don’t be afraid to ask questions, but don’t hog the lecturer’s time either
– do all your exercises, this is where you learn to program
– rewrite the notes in your terms, leaving out the nonsense (especially valuable if you will write an exam)
– get a good nights rest every night, and keep your relaxation healthy, you need your brain.Program, Progam and Program
The quickest way to becoming proficient is to jump right in and get your hands dirty. Like all things in life, practice makes perfect. The more you do the better you get – it’s that simple. You will find the learning curve steep in the beginning but the more you code, the flatter the curve becomes. You need to keep ‘pushing on’ in the beginning and soon enough you will get to a point where you can build code straight from your head. Get to know your Textbooks
Let’s face it, you won’t come off course knowing and remembering everything. Hopefully, what you will know is where to find it, and key to this is knowing your textbooks. The better you know your textbooks the quicker you learn. The trick here is not to know all the content (ideal but unrealistic), but how to find stuff quickly. Again, this will only come from spending time in them, and soon they will become your programming ‘bibles’. They give the correct code and usually accompanying examples, so give it a bash on your own and if there is no success, pull out the books.
Learn to Search on the Web
A great tool available these days is the internet. Time and time again, I use the available search engines to find out how to code something. The key to this tool is using the right search phrase. I always type in “what I want do” followed by the programming language e.g.
“Date Validation” COBOL
“Calling subroutines” JAVAKeep your search phrase simple. This tool can save you hours of “hair pulling” when your code just doesn’t seem to work or when you don’t know where to start.

Causes of Depression in Teens
Posted on September 7th, 2009 No commentsApparently, in this present world, you can find many cures for depression, but it’s not easy to find the real cause behind whats troubling you so that it can be treated naturally. Doctors and scientists have reported to have said that more of teens are falling into the trap of depression. It is basically due to more teens falling into more problems which they unable to overcome from, and this leads to depression. It may be due to a chain following up in teens or also due to better treatment available to cure depression.
There are many factors which can lead to depression in teenagers but whatever the reason it may be, you need to take instant action against it. There have been many recent cases of depression which have ended up in tragedy. So for the betterment of yourself or some family member of yours then take action don’t just ignore the fact.
The many causes of depression in teens range from physical problems internally to external circumstances that cause them to learn depression. Depression itself is caused by a chemical reaction in the brain, where it does not regulate and release a chemical necessary for a good mood.
If the required amount of this chemical is not produced then you will anyway lead to depression. It is also caused in teens mostly due the chemical imbalance. Many other physical causes like fluctuation of hormones which is common during puberty can also lead to depression.
Some of these physical causes of depression in teens can go away over time, as they get older and those hormones level off. However it is dangerous to assume that this will happen and then ignore the symptoms and other causes of this condition.
Depression in teens is mostly due to bullying. Other problems like being unable to find a solution to a severe problem or being stuck in an unsuccessful marriage, a tiring job, a heavy debt and so on.
When it comes to bullying and depression in teens, kids often feel trapped and helpless because they can’t switch schools the way one can switch jobs or get a divorce, and they often feel as if they can’t talk to their parents or anyone else about the problem.
This helplessness and frustration with the problem, as well as the humiliation they may be suffering, can often cause depression in teens. Other situations can be similar to how a bullied teen feels.
For instance if they live in an abusive home or even if one parent is negligent or abusive, if they are using any kind of drugs, if they have failing grades, or if they feel they are under tremendous amounts of pressure to perform academically or athletically, these factors too can cause depression in teens.
To support the teens during depression is one way of helping them to recover from it. As a parent you should see that your child discusses every problem with you and you assist them to solve the problem without punishing them.
Disclaimer: Whatever you do, make sure to consult with your doctor first before taking a step further.

Solar Energy For Homes.
Posted on September 7th, 2009 No commentsMany people see sun only as the center of our solar system. We should also consider sun as a heavenly body which gives the blessing of life to this planet. It is not only a ball of fire, but we have also learned to use it as an alternate source of energy. The increased use of this form of energy also prevents us from the ill effects of Global warming.
The use of solar energy is an effective way to cut electricity cost by generating electricity through sun light, which can be used in factories, offices and same can be used to generate solar energy for homes. Not only the environmental organizations but also the government is encouraging people to switch on to solar energy. Fortunately, more and more organizations are coming forward for the environment cause and advocating the use of solar power.
To convince people for switching to solar energy, the installation process are being made easy, so that even a common man can install it. This not only helps to cure the environment, but also helps in handsome savings as a result of reduced electric billings. Home solar energy kits which are available in the market, makes installations very easy. The Earth4Energy manual has come out with a easy step by step video guide to help you with this.
So what are you waiting for? Give solar energy a try and help support the nature.

National safety passport training course – anywhere any time
Posted on September 7th, 2009 No commentsIn order to ensure safe work on sites there has been a rising requirement for contractors to undergo a minimum level of health and safety training. This has been especially necessary in the hazardous industries. To ensure the contractors have completed this training, entry to sites is being restricted to those who can prove that they have undergone the necessary training (health and safety responsibilities). This is more commonly achieved by means of a ‘Safety Passport’.
National Safety Passports are an increasingly important way for employers and companies who employ contractors, to establish health and safety competence among their workforce. The safety passport is similar to any other passport in that it allows the holder access to a passport-controlled environment.
The national safety passport provides details of the health and safety training (essential skills) that the holder has received and is used as evidence that the bearer is qualified to an acceptable and recognised level of health and safety awareness. There are a number of Passport schemes in existence and there are also other forms of Safety training which achieve this minimum level of awareness. Some of these schemes are not recognised by certain sectors of the industry as they may be from other areas (ie off-shore or European). However, some of the other forms of training cover the passport syllabus in deeper or greater detail.
EMSS aims to harness some of these ‘other’ schemes and standardise the syllabus content which will incorporate existing passport schemes that meet or exceed the agreed minimum standard. NESHEP and the National Skills Academy have developed a standard gleaned from years of research into industry best practice and several decades of experience and expertise.
These essential minimum safety standards dictate the required minimum safety standards necessary to work safely on any high hazard site and have been thoroughly audited by industry leaders.
Personnel carry their EMSS (essential minimum safety standard) Passport Card as proof that they have been trained and validated as reaching the essential minimum safety standard required. The client sites where this person works can authenticate the passport card online.
This will prove that the card is genuine but please note that an EMSS Passport card should not be considered as proof of identity.

Wedding Photo How-to
Posted on September 7th, 2009 No commentsA family member has asked you to take pictures of their wedding, and you want to do the best job possible. They may have decided not to hire a professional photographer and instead are relying on you to take pictures for them.
You feel the pressure, and want to make sure you do the best job possible. Here are ten guidelines to help you from Jim Whitesell, a Edmonton wedding photographer:
1. Use the best equipment possible
A small point-and-shoot camera is fine for capturing family memories, but doesn’t do as well as a digital SLR with an external flash. The focus time, shutter delay, and limited reach of the small built-in flash will all cause problems for you. If you do not own or have access to a digital SLR camera and external flash, you can probably rent them from a camera store. Be sure to test and practice with the camera before the wedding day! A professional will likely have multiple lenses as well, but this is often beyond the ability of a casual shooter.
2. Take at least two memory cards
Although it doesn’t happen often, memory cards can fail. Keeping an extra card with you is cheap insurance that will keep you shooting if your card does quit working. Be sure the cards are of ample size so you don’t run out of space half-way through the night. 4GB is the minimum size you should have with you.
3. Batteries, batteries, batteries
Be sure to charge the camera batteries the night before, and preferably have a second battery charged and ready. Most external flash units use AA batteries so have a couple extra sets of these, too.
4. Attend the rehearsal
Taking pictures at the rehearsal is the best way to be prepared for the pictures you’ll take at the actual ceremony. You’ll have a feel for where to position yourself for the best shots. While a professional wedding photographer won’t usually shoot at the rehearsal, they will often make an appearance to not only reassure the bride and groom that they are prepared for the next day but also to scope out the building. Their experience will enable them to know where the best shots are just by seeing the facility.
5. Posing the bridal party
When taking formal pictures of the bridal party, watch the details. Make sure everyone’s face is visible, and note the placement of hands and feet. Pleasing poses are key.
6. Photographing the ceremony
If the wedding will take place inside a church, you’ll need to shoot without flash. Use a tripod to hold the camera steady or camera shake caused by longer exposure times will likely ruin the pictures.
7. Shooting the reception
If possible, try to get a shot or two of the reception hall before everyone arrives. Takes some shots of other details, too – like the head table decorations, cake, etc. Once things are underway, it’s always nice to go table-to-table and get pictures of all the guests.
8. Shoot the details
Take pictures of the little details. The rings, bridal bouquet, ring bearer, flower girl, bride’s shoes, etc. are all great details to capture and the bride will be quite pleased to have these.
9. Capture the fun
There are always fun, unplanned moments that make each wedding unique and memorable. Always have your camera ready to capture the moment!
10. Back up the photos
As soon as possible after the wedding, burn all the original images to a CD or DVD for safekeeping. Do this before you make any changes to them. If you accidentally delete an important picture or have a computer failure you’ll still have the originals to fall back on. Even a professional budget wedding photographer will make backups.
Your friends have entrusted you with a very important task. The pictures are the best way to remember the wedding and all the fun details. While a professional wedding photographer will do a better job, brides and grooms with limited funds may not have the ability to pay for one.
If you aren’t up to the task, why not suggest you pay for all or part of a professional photographer’s fee as your gift to the couple? And if you just happen to be near Edmonton, Alberta, please check out Jim Whitesell’s website for Edmonton wedding pictures.
