Choosing Between Personal & Vehicle Breakdown Cover!
Posted on August 22nd, 2009 No commentsDo You Need Vehicle Cover, or Personal Cover?
Breakdown cover comes in two major varieties, personal cover or vehicle cover. Both of these are good options depending on your situation, but they’re different. With personal cover, you’ll be covered no matter what vehicle you’re driving or riding in.
With vehicle cover, you as a person are not covered; instead, one particular vehicle, in and of itself, is what is covered. The vehicle cover can be especially beneficial to a family of drivers who drive one car. However, if you drive several vehicles as a matter of course, personal cover is probably for you.
What Level of Cover Do You Need?
There are many different levels of breakdown cover, too, to choose from when it comes to breakdown cover. Make sure you have the right cover for you so that you have the cover you need. The most basic and cheapest of the cover levels offered is roadside assistance.
For a little bit more, you can get roadside assistance and home cover; with home cover, the patrol will come to your home to help you out if you have a breakdown there. Comprehensive cover includes many more features, and the specifics of those features differ between companies. However, you get a lot more service with comprehensive cover, although it is more expensive as well.
Finally, European cover will cover you for breakdown cover if you need to go outside of the United Kingdom. Keep in mind that your regular breakdown cover will not cover you if you go outside of the UK, so get European cover if you do plan to go abroad.

Easiest Way To Examine Your Shock Absorbers!
Posted on August 22nd, 2009 No commentsBouncing down the road one day it occurs to you that things are just not what they should be. The road you are riding on is as smooth as glass, yet your car is jostling up and down like nobody’s business. You enter an upcoming curve in the road and quickly learn that the control you had over your car was lost just moments before. Suddenly, the vehicle Shock Absorbers careens off the road, goes down through a ditch and up an embankment before coming to rest against a fence adjacent to Tony’s garage. You are in luck: you aren’t dead and your car is at Tony’s, who happens to be your favorite mechanic.
Yes this story is ridiculous, exceedingly so. All joking aside, your shock absorbers [or struts in the case of some cars] plays a vital part in your vehicle’s suspension system. When certain signs of wear and tear become apparent, you must replace your shocks or otherwise you can put yourself in danger and/or damage your car. A shock absorber works by damping the compression and extension of the vehicle’s suspension springs to prevent ongoing movement. Monroe Shock Absorbers work to diminish road impact, prevent excessive bounce back, reduce sway, and improve general road handling. When your shocks are functioning properly your vehicle grips to the road whether you are braking, negotiating a curve in the road, driving on uneven roads, or experiencing powerful side winds. When worn out, shocks can play a part in you losing control of your car putting you and everyone else in harm’s way.
How often should you replace your Shock Absorbers? One manufacturer suggests no less than once every 50,000 miles, but that depends on whether you frequently drive on coarse roads [in this case it will need to occur sooner] or it could even be much later if you do mostly local driving, the roads are well maintained, etc.

Breakdown Cover – Finding Reliable Breakdown Recovery
Posted on August 22nd, 2009 No commentsLet’s face it, having a breakdown is never fun and what makes matters even worse is, they always tend to happen at the worst possible time. For this reason, having suitable breakdown cover is a sensible option but what many people don’t realize, not all breakdown cover policies include breakdown recovery.
Whether you get stuck on the side of the road with a flat battery, or whether you end up with a flat tire, having breakdown recovery included in your cover means that help is always on hand. Even if the fault can’t be repaired on the spot, at least you’ll still get a tow.
Roadside Assistance
Of course, if you already have breakdown cover, you’ll already know that the policy includes roadside assistance. Essentially, as soon as you call for help a patrol vehicle is immediately dispatched along with qualified personnel who’ll do everything in their power to ensure you’re on the road again in a minimum amount of time.
If all else fails, you vehicle will be towed and depending on your level of cover, you’ll be provided for with regards to onwards travel. Of course, there are many different forms of cover so be sure you choose one that best meets your needs.
Does Cover Include Other Vehicles?
In the vast majority of cases, your breakdown cover will not include cover for other vehicles so if this is a concern for you, be sure to discuss this prior to accepting a policy.
Unfortunately, many motorists tend to be under the impression that their breakdown cover provides cover for any vehicle, only to be later disappointed when they learn otherwise. If you own a minibus, van or motorcycle, you’ll need to take out a policy specific to that vehicle.
